Holmfirth Town Centre improvements - Traffic Updates
As you will know there are currently major improvements underway in the Town centre of Holmfirth. Click on the links below for more updates on this scheme.
March 2026 - there are plans to close Hollowgate/Rotcher Road for resurfacing sometime in March. Our local councillor. Mr Moses Crook, and the developers, CR Reynolds, are going to keep us updated and when there are specific dates available for the closure we will keep parents informed.

Advance Notice of Hollowgate Closures (January–March 2026)
As part of the ongoing Holmfirth Town Access Plan Scheme, Kirklees Council will be carrying out essential works on Hollowgate early next year. These works form a significant stage in the delivery of the new bridge and associated infrastructure improvements.
To complete this work safely and efficiently, a Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO) has been approved from Monday 5 January to Monday 9 March 2026. This TTRO gives permission for Hollowgate to be closed to vehicles when required. (This does not mean the road will be closed the whole time, but there will be several periods when vehicles cannot pass through, and we want to give you plenty of advance notice.)
Access during the works
- Pedestrian access will stay open at all times, with safe routes provided.
- Access to homes and businesses will be maintained, although the way to access may change at different stages.
- Access to Rotcher Road will be maintained except during resurfacing.
- Access across Lower Mill Lane will operate under four-way temporary traffic lights, similar to recent arrangements.
- Emergency service access will be maintained.
We recognise that restrictions on vehicle access can be disruptive, and we thank you in advance for your patience as we complete these essential improvements to the town centre. Further updates will be provided as dates are confirmed or if the programme changes.
What is happening and when:
Please note: the dates below may change depending on weather, ground conditions, or the progress of earlier stages. These activities involve outdoor construction, lifting operations, and work tied to river levels, so flexibility is sometimes required. We will keep you updated if plans change.
Phase 1: 5th January – 19th January 2026
Details: We will remove the old bridge
Access: Hollowgate expected to remain open to but traffic will be narrowed and controlled.
Phase 2 – 19th January – 6th February 2026
Details: We will dig out and build the foundations for the new bridge.
Access: Vehicle closure required.
Phase 3 – 21st January – 2nd March 2026 (concurrent with Phase 2)
Details: Further construction work around the bridge area
Access: Vehicle closure likely to continue
Phase 4 – 3rd March – 9th March 2026
Details: We will resurface the road and add new markings.
Access: Vehicle access restricted during the day Additional works – Bridge beam installation • Installation of new bridge beams is expected to take place one night during the TTRO window.
